Gus was his own chantyman and many an afternoon in the shade of his old ash tree
you would find him singing his favorite sea chanties accompanied by this rhythm
he made by squeezing his hands together.
Presented on this CD are those sea chanties he learned over the forty
years he spent at sea. Each chantyman had his own way of singing them which you will find reflected in these songs.
From sail to steamer there was this magic rhythm that was so much a part of the each
job that was performed on board.
